Once the permanent teeth arrive, they are here to stay, and you must take care of them for them to last a lifetime. We offer a series of cosmetic treatments such as implants, veneers, dentures, and bridges. Call our Thornton office today to schedule a consultation.
How Extractions Are Performed in Our Office
If you need to have a permanent tooth extracted, our dentists will first start out by identifying the problematic tooth or teeth. Once it has been identified, you will receive a topical anesthetic that will numb the area. An injection of Novocain will be administered, and this will help ensure that you do not feel anything.
Our dentists will use a special type of tool that wiggles the tooth and helps remove it from the socket. Once the tooth has been extracted, you may receive stitches to help close up the area where the tooth was. You will be given a gauze pad to bite down on in case bleeding occurs. If you do not receive dissolvable sutures, then you will need to come back into our office to have the stitches removed.
Our dentist may provide you with an ice pack to place on your mouth or near your mouth to help eliminate swelling. In addition, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers to alleviate discomfort. Before you do leave our office, we will go over instructions with you for after care.
Keep in Mind Tooth Decay Can Harm Your Permanent Teeth
Tooth decay is one of the top reasons why patients visit the dentist and many patients do not know that they have tooth decay until it actually starts to bother them. Tooth decay can be present on any of your permanent teeth and can result in gum disease or infection. The earliest stages of tooth decay can be treated with a filling and often times, remineralization works too.
Moderate tooth decay extends down into the pulp of the tooth and this can lead to a serious infection, which may require that you have a root canal performed. Severe decay can result in complete loss of the tooth.

Permanent Tooth Loss Can Occur When Periodontal Disease Is Present
Periodontal disease is advanced gum disease and is present once gum disease has surpassed the gingivitis level. When you do have this stage of gum disease, you will notice that your gums bleed more than they should, and your teeth will become loose. It is important that you seek out immediate dental care to save your teeth.
Regular checkups are an important part of life and they must be done to ensure you do not have gum disease. Many patients do not even know that they suffer from gum disease until it is too late, and this is because the symptoms are often silent.
When it comes down to it, periodontal disease can result in tooth loss and this means that you may need to have dental implants to prevent the tooth loss from causing a change in your facial structure. Extractions are usually performed when you may lose your teeth, or they are on the brink of falling out themselves.
